Why summer is the busiest stretch
Late May through August is peak season across this part of Texas, partly because school is out and partly because so many leases roll over then. Booking earlier in this window gives you more choice of dates.
If your schedule can bend into early spring or fall instead, you will find more open dates and considerably cooler loading conditions for the same job.
Scheduling around the heat
Ask for the earliest start available. A crew that begins at seven in the morning has the heavy furniture loaded before the afternoon heat sets in around Cedar Park and the surrounding towns.
A weekday morning is usually both cheaper and physically easier on everyone than a Saturday afternoon in July.
Protecting heat sensitive items
Candles, vinyl records, cosmetics, houseplants, and electronics do not do well sitting in a closed trailer that has been parked in the sun. These items are packed separately and loaded last, so they spend the least time in the heat, and unloaded first at the other end.
Anything you can carry in your own air conditioned car is usually better off there than in the truck, and we will point out which boxes fall into that category.
Keeping the crew and your belongings both safe
Water stays on every truck, breaks are scheduled rather than skipped, and the truck doors stay shut between loads to hold the trailer temperature down.
A short checklist for the day
Keep a cooler of water on the porch for the crew, wear something you do not mind sweating in, and have the air conditioning running at the new address before the truck arrives so the house is already cooling down.
What to skip carrying yourself
Heavy furniture carried up a driveway in full sun is where most summer move injuries happen to homeowners who try to help. Let the crew handle the heavy pieces and save your energy for directing traffic and answering questions.
A note on pets
A moving day with open doors and heavy furniture in motion is not a safe day for a dog or a cat to be underfoot. Arranging for pets to stay with a friend or a sitter for the day tends to make the whole move calmer for everyone, including the pet.
